September 12, 2016 - We Will Never Forget 9/11

Hello Friends and Family, it's Elder Hansen again!

This week went by really fast and I don't really remember a whole lot but I will let you guys know about the things I do remember. So for P-day last week we went to a place called CitiTrends and basically if you want to look "hip for cheap" you shop at CitiTrends, so we went so we can blend in with the locals. :) Anyway, on Wednesday we had a pretty cool Zone Training a learned some good stuff there. Afterwards we had a "funeral" for the dying missionaries (going home) so that was funny. After that we knocked. We are pretty low on investigators right now so we knocked a lot this week but didn't really find anybody which was unfortunate. We talked to a blind guy named Joseph, that was a new experience. We found like 6 potentials but none of them became new investigators which was lame-sauce but we did have a very interesting conversation with this guy named Trey. He talked to us about how you can use any religion to get to heaven, but you don't even need any religion and you can go through Christ, Allah, Krishna, Buddah, Mahatma Gandi, etc. to get to heaven. Apparently Christ wasn't the only Messiah!  Anyway, that was interesting. On Thursday I went on exchange with Elder Petersen which is always a delight :) On Saturday there was a homecoming for a sister in the ward and she ALREADY HAS A BOYFRIEND!!! So that was pretty quick, haha! On Sunday we had an actual spiritually edifying sacrament meeting so that is good. Also we got fed by the Davis family and had some American MEAT and POTATOES!!! Super good! Anywho, that's about it for the week, it was pretty lame but should be better next week!

For my last thought, Jeremiah 7:23-24, "But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward."

If we follow the counsels of God we choose our Heavenly Father to be our God, for our "hearts are upon [our] treasures; wherefore, [our] treasure is [our] god." (2 Nephi 9:30) What we treasure is what we worship, and if our hearts are set too much upon the things of the world, sometimes they have to be broken. Unfortunately, it is the tendency of men to forget their god, "O how foolish, and how vain, and how evil, and devilish, and how quick to do iniquity, and how slow to do good, are the children of men; yea, how quick to hearken unto the words of the evil one, and to set their hearts upon the vain things of the world! Yea, how quick to be lifted up in pride; yea, how quick to boast, and do all manner of that which is iniquity; and how slow are they to remember the Lord their God, and to give ear unto his counsels, yea, how slow to walk in wisdom’s paths!" (Helaman 12:4-5) If we do not put off the natural man our tendency is to forget the God that has created us and we heed not His counsel. How foolish is it for us to tell the Creator of the universe that we know better than He by not heeding his counsels. When we do so we end up digressing and missing the mark of our Divine Potential and go "backward, and not forward."

So lets follow God's commands!

I love you all, Florida's great and I will talk to you next week on Tuesday because we have transfers!

Their new digs from CitiTrends so they can "blend in" with the locals. :)

The new neighbor...

A surprise 'duckface' photo text from a member :)

Interesting choices, we like Elder Petersen's but Elder Hansen has a lot going on there,
are they pants or shorts with socks?
